Replaced LED Light in Run

The older of my two electric LED lights stopped working the other day. No idea why. It had been working great and suddenly wouldn’t turn on again. Maybe a fuse inside the light blew out? Not sure. I can’t recall how long I’ve had it for. Possibly 4 years now, if not more? 

So I quickly ordered a new one (only $21.99) instead of waiting 3+ months, or never, for Hubby to “play” with the broken one to try to repair it! LOL! If he can eventually get it working again, we have plenty of other uses for it! You can never have too much outdoor lighting at night! 

I ordered the same one as my newer electric LED light. The newer one is slightly different then the older one. The newer one has a switch built into the cord and the old one doesn’t. Otherwise, the two lights are nearly identical.

My gals love it when the lights turn on at 5 am, even in the summer months! I used to use them only in the winter months; however, since installing my WiFi cameras, I can now see that they start getting really antsy in the hen condo around 4 am! If the lights don’t come on at 5 am like they do in the winter, they get pissed! In fact, they finally started leaving the hen condo at around 5 am despite the darkness! So I went back to having the lights turn on at 5 am again. It’s easy enough with my outdoor smart plug! I can set as many schedules as I want for on and off times, and each port operates separately too! Many smart plugs with more than one port don’t operate independently! So it’s great that I can operate each light separately! I have one in all of the time for my four WiFi cameras. If one of the cameras goes offline, I just use my phone to turn it off, which cuts power to the WiFi cameras, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on…Camera(s) reset, reconnect and start working again! I used to have to run down there to manually unplug and then plug back in the camera(s) that were offline. Which sucks after dark, or during frigid temps, or when it’s raining or snowing! Now I can reset them using my phone! And what’s nice is, I can reset them no matter where I am! I don’t have to be home to reset them! Which is great when away on vacation! I can check in on my gals and if a camera is offline, I can just reset it by powering it off, then back on using my smart plug phone app! Modern technology just keeps getting better and better all of the time! Truly amazing!

Anyway, one of my WiFi cams captured parts of the removal of the old LED light, and installation and testing of the new LED light. Thought I’d share!

Too Much Rain!

We are getting way too much rain! Plus we had a snow melt with all of this rain! The yard is a mess! When walking down to the chicken coop, the lawn is so soft and squishy! I had to wear boots because my feet would have gotten drenched with regular footwear just walking across the lawn! No drought here!  Areas out front:  Our walkway from driveway to front of house! Crazy!   Areas out back:  I am glad the chicken run is relatively dry!  The first year with my chickens, they were all sinking in mud here! I had to add many bags of fine gravel, followed by many bags of sand to raise the ground level a few inches inside the run! It still wasn’t quite enough so I had to add many more bags of sand a couple more times until I could get the ground was raised enough to stay puddle-free! Deck Work

We are in the process of replacing the deck boards and railings, as well as adding additional supports in various spots to enhance the strength of the deck over time. It was tough removing the old deck boards and getting the new ones into position. The new boards are pressure-treated and are 20 feet in length, so each board was very heavy and difficult to maneuver. Once we had the boards in place it took about 800 deck screws to secure them! That’s a lot of screwing, LOL! We still have the last two end boards to install, as well as the new railings, and then we need to work on the stairs. We are going with premade railings which will be easier to install after trimming them to fit properly. Since the trailer is tied up with the scrap boards and railings, we have to run to the dump when they’re open I was hoping to finish before the end of vacation but we decided to take a break and head up to New Hampshire to visit our son and his family!  Here is the progress so far!  We had the 20-fo

Christmas Decorating in Progress!

This year I decided to make some changes with some of my Christmas decorations! The old outdoor strings of lights needed to be replaced. One string no longer worked last year and I figured the others might not might not make it through another season. I have always enjoyed the multicolor lights but I know my husband loves blue lights so I decided to go with blue. They are very pretty but, to me, not as “Christmasy” as the multicolored lights. I could go to the store to get multicolored lights to replace them but it is just too much work at this point! We will remain decorated in blue for this Christmas anyway! LOL!!  But the highlight of my Christmas decorating this year is my new, pre-lit, artificial Christmas Tree! I had been using a pre-lit, artificial Christmas tree that I have had for at least ten years, possibly closer to 15 years! But it was only seven feet tall and looked really tiny in my post and beam living room with super high ceilings!  My new tree is twelve feet tall! And
